You gotta watch these visuals from the Etienne de Crécy Liveact at the Transmusicales festival in Rennes (France) last year in December. The visuals were done by Exyzt, a group of architechts. These guys know their stuff. Etienne stands inside a giant cube and rocks the building:

Next time we do a liveact I know how the stage will look like…won’t do it without these totally cool projection cubes (it somehow reminds me of audiocubes – but that’s for another story).

What do Elton John and George Michael have in common

I know what you were thinking, and I have to say “No”, that’s not what I meant. Besides their preference for men, they have another thing in common: they both have chosen to use a stage name instead of their realname to become well known musicians.

I knew about Freddy Mercury (realname: “Farrokh Bulsara”) but I never thought about Elton John or George Michael when it came to stage names (although I could have guessed it). So here they are:

Elton John realname: Reginald Kenneth Dwight

George Michael realname: Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou

I have absolutely no doubt, that they became way more successful using those names, than if they’d used their realnames instead. What do you think?

The Song is driven by the main sample or sample idea which itself is taken from the song “Wanna be startin’ something” on Michael Jacksons “Thriller”-Album which was produced by Quincy Jones and released 25 years ago (man, is it already that long…).

I like it very much when old music lines (that proved to work earlier) are taken into a whole new context. Especially when many people have forgotten about the original song or were not even born when the song came out.

What song(s) that contain a sample or line from an older track do you like? Leave your comment, I’m keen getting to know.

Chicane does it on his own

Well known and respected dance musician Chicane did not have an easy time lately, getting his creative output to the people and making a good living off of it: His album easy to assemble leaked online and was heavily pirated resulting in thousands of CD sales from which Nick never saw a dime. Now that he has produced his fourth album, he is hitting the musical universe again, this time all on his own with his newly founded label (Modena Records).

As you can read on the billboard site:

Now, Chicane is trying to rebound with a self-financed, rock-influenced fourth album, “Somersault” (Modena), out July 23 in the United Kingdom. “I’ve invested close to $400,000 so far, raised by selling my Ferrari and remortgaging the house,” Bracegirdle says. “I’ve always played live with a sizable group of musicians, but now I’m financing everything myself. It is a challenge. The group and crew cost $8,000 per show.”

Being a huge Chicane fan myself for years I hope everything works out fine for Nick this time and that the album rocks so hard that it’s easy for him to get back his Ferarri in no time! I don’t begrudge it to him. Rock on Dude!
