Astonishing Visuals at Etienne de Crécy Liveact

You gotta watch these visuals from the Etienne de Crécy Liveact at the Transmusicales festival in Rennes (France) last year in December. The visuals were done by Exyzt, a group of architechts. These guys know their stuff. Etienne stands inside a giant cube and rocks the building:

Next time we do a liveact I know how the stage will look like…won’t do it without these totally cool projection cubes (it somehow reminds me of audiocubes – but that’s for another story).

The Ting Tings – That’s not my name

Found a track on Youtube and I think that they really rock!

The name of the band is “The Ting Tings” and so far I never consciously took notice of ‘em. My bad…

There’s a live version of the song on Youtube which I love since I first saw it. I love how she moves and sings. You can see that she absolutely loves what they’re doing:

It seems that they use a guitar and a synth playback track and I guess they used a vocal sampler to loop her voice in the second half of the song. Great stuff!

Update: There’s another song I know this band from: they did another track called “Shut up and let me go” which was used in an Apple Ad. I know it from a little fun video that my beloved iJustine made.

Everytime I see a video of a good beatboxer I’m heavily impressed with what some people can do with their mouth, like the one in the following video:

Another example of a good beatboxing performance – in my ~~eyes~~ ears – is this video showing Alex Tew the creator of the milliondollarhomepage imitating a drum set:

That reminds me of a time when I used a few samples of my recorded voice to set up a virtual drum set that I used to arrange a little song with a tracker program. Nothing that would change the world eventually, but you can have quite some fun with your own bodys noises that way, just try it (ideally invite a friend to max the fun…)

The Song is driven by the main sample or sample idea which itself is taken from the song “Wanna be startin’ something” on Michael Jacksons “Thriller”-Album which was produced by Quincy Jones and released 25 years ago (man, is it already that long…).

I like it very much when old music lines (that proved to work earlier) are taken into a whole new context. Especially when many people have forgotten about the original song or were not even born when the song came out.

What song(s) that contain a sample or line from an older track do you like? Leave your comment, I’m keen getting to know.
